What is a Durable Power of Attorney (DPOA)?
A legal document that ensures your personal affairs will continue to be properly handled during your lifetime without the necessity and cost of court intervention should you become incapacitated.
The DPOA authorizes your agent (a person you choose) to manage your financial affairs if you become unable (or unwilling) to manage them yourself.
WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN
A DURABLE POWER OF ATTORNEY AND A REGULAR ONE?
The difference has to do with whether the powers remain effective after the onset of a disability. That is, the regular power of attorney ceases to be effective if you become disabled, whereas the “durable” power of attorney continues to be effective despite your subsequent disability.
